Oraza ait and Kurban ait
Behind the word “ayt” are two different Muslim holidays: Oraza ait ends Ramadan, and Kurban ait is associated with sacrifice and caring for those in need. Specify what holiday you were invited to: the meaning of the meeting and the family’s preparation depend on this.
- Two holidays
- Oraza ait and Kurban ait require different explanations.
- Calendar
- The date for the desired year and time of prayer are clarified according to messages from the SAMK and the local mosque.
- General meaning of the meeting
- Attention to loved ones, congratulations and all possible help.
History and meaning
Ramadan is the month of fasting, iftar or ayzashar is the evening breaking of the fast during the days of fasting. People do not fast on the day of Oraza Ait. Therefore, a visit to ait cannot be automatically planned as a dinner after sunset. The hosts determine the time of the guest reception separately from the time of ait-namaz.
Kurban Ait has its own religious content. In the explanation of the SAMK, sacrifice is associated with Ibrahim’s faith and willingness to share. The terms of the ceremony depend on the individual's circumstances; they are clarified with the imam. A guest should not consider it his responsibility to purchase meat, pay for an animal, or participate in a distribution just because he was invited.
Customs and table
Congratulate and visit
On Ait they visit loved ones, pay attention to elders and children. You can say “Ait kabyl bolsyn!” If you are planning several visits, agree on short intervals so that the hosts do not have to keep hot food ready all day. Telephone congratulations also allow you to pay attention to a person far from home.
Qurbani meat can be given to family, guests and the needy. If you are helping the organizer, clarify your task in advance: prepare clean containers, coordinate receipt or deliver portions. It is better to plan distribution separately from the guest table, taking into account storage and travel.
Respect the religious part
Those who go to the mosque should find out the schedule and visiting rules in advance. For a home reception, neat clothes taking into account the wishes of the family are suitable. Inviting a person of another faith does not mean that he is obliged to repeat the prayers; a respectful and calm presence is sufficient.
Dastarkhan according to family capabilities
For a home meeting, you can choose a hot dish, bauyrsak or other pastries, tea, fruits and sweets. This is a menu option, not a religious list. Check the halal requirements and the composition of purchased products; alcohol is not suitable for such a gift. Serve hot food at the agreed time, leave water available, and prepare separate utensils for shared meals. Children can be offered a simple portion without having to try everything.

Practical tips for preparation
If you are invited
- Inform the number of people who came with you and dietary restrictions; Do not bring additional guests without agreement with the hosts.
- Agree on a gift for children or a treat in advance: a little attention is more appropriate than a purchase that creates an obligation to respond with an equivalent gift.
- Offer one specific help and accept refusal calmly; do not ask a person whether he fasted and why.
If you are hosting
- Divide the day into a religious part, helping others and receiving guests; allow for rest between tasks and trips.
- Agree who cooks, greets and cleans; Guests can bring some pastries or fruit by mutual agreement.
- Limit the menu to a few favorite items, calculate items according to confirmed invitations, and plan in advance for the transfer of remaining food.
