Pastille and fruit rolls
A thin layer of fruit can be rolled into a tube. But the shape itself does not tell you what fruit it is made from or whether there is sugar, filling or other additives.
One of the fruit layer technologies is drying the puree in a thin layer. NCHFP describes the product as a flexible, chewy fruit strip.
Different fruits can be mixed in the puree; Sweetening depends on the recipe. This does not automatically call any straw a product without added sugar.
A filled roll and a simple fruit layer should be compared separately. Additives change both the composition and storage conditions.
History
Drying not only whole fruits
In the FAO guidelines, crop preservation includes making a layer of puree. Using pumpkin as an example, it shows cooking, panning, drying and slicing. This is an illustration of the method, not the composition of our straw.
Regions and differences
The straw does not indicate the country or fruit
The type of fruit base, place of manufacture and origin of the raw materials for this item have not been confirmed. It would be inaccurate to assign them one point on the map.
Types and processing
Thin sheet
The flexible layer is convenient to cut into strips. Softness depends on the recipe and final moisture content.
For portioning into small pieces.
Roll or tube
Folding changes the delivery, not the confirmed composition. Check to see if there is filling between the layers.
For compact serving of fruity sweets.
With additives
Nuts and other ingredients are possible if specified in the recipe. The filling requires a separate labeling check.
When you need a specific composition and combination of textures.
Drying this product
Fruit layers can be obtained in a dryer or oven with a suitable mode. This is one way of categorizing; The regime of our party is being clarified. About the method
NCHFP also describes solar drying of the fruit layer. Applicability depends on weather and protected process; the shape of the tube does not prove this method. About the method
FAO also gives an example of a layer produced in a solar dryer. This type of cabinet is different from a layout in direct sun. About the method
How to choose
- Check the type of puree, sweeteners and the presence of filling.
- For versions with nuts or other additives, check the allergen labeling of the whole product.
- If soft texture is important, rely on the batch description or sample, not just the thickness of the tube.
- Compare the serving weight: the length of the roll does not give the same amount of product.
- After opening, follow the manufacturer's instructions; the conditions for a simple fruit layer cannot be transferred to a roll with another filling.
