Dried fruit mixture for compote
The taste of the drink depends on what fruits are mixed and in what ratio. The name of the mixture alone does not specify either a constant recipe or the same sweetness.
Dried fruit can be boiled in water for a drink or a thicker fruit dessert. The amount of water and the consumption of the fruits themselves change the result.
In the Stony Brook recipe, dried fruits are cooked with spices and a citrus addition; Some sweet additives are indicated as optional. This is an application example, not the composition of our mixture.
Different properties are important for the drink and for the fruit eaten with it: the richness of the decoction, the softness of the pulp, the size of the pieces and the presence of seeds.
History
Saved harvest returns to the kitchen
A university recipe shows one use for dried fruit: once cooked, it can be served warm or processed into a smoother mass. The compote mixture is not limited to one serving method.
Regions and differences
Each fruit can have its own country
While the composition and origin of the batch's components are not specified, the mixture is not associated with one country on the map. The name of the drink does not prove the origin of the crop.
Types and processing
Whole and large fruits
Convenient when you plan to serve fruit along with a drink. Bones and inedible parts must be taken into account separately.
For serving softened fruits.
Chopped mixture
Size affects ease of portioning. Different fruits may have different softening times, even when cut similarly.
For recipes with fruit pieces or subsequent chopping.
Drying this product
Some fruit raw materials can be dried in the sun. This is a possible technology for individual components, not a set method for making our entire mixture. About the method
Dryers with air supply are also used for fruits. To compare specific batches, you need information on the components of the mixture. About the method
How to choose
- Request a list of fruits and, if consistency of taste is important, their ratio.
- Check for the presence of seeds, sugar, preservatives and other treatments.
- Choose a recipe to suit your task: a drink, fruit to serve, or a thick dessert.
- Do not transfer the calorie content of the dry mixture to a glass of decoction: the result depends on the recipe and whether the fruits are eaten.
- Store the dry mixture unopened as labeled. After soaking, it is already a product with different storage conditions.
